#AskGemmaGym 5 Ft. Shaun Swadling

In this episode of #AskGemmaGym we interview elite trampolinist, Shaun Swadling why he has moved halfway around the world to train with our friends at OLGA Gymnastics and Trampolining in Poole. For those of you who are unfamiliar with AskGemmaGym, this is our gymnastics video series we produce discussing gymnastics related topics, hosted by Gemma Coles & Robin Hartey.  This may be in the form of an interview (sometimes with a guest like this edition), or more of a discussion format whilst answering questions submitted by our social media followers.

Shaun is a 25-year-old Australian national trampoline team member, primary school teacher and trampoline coach. He has been training for 18 years now and was the Olympic reserve for both the London and the Rio Olympic games. Shaun moved to Bournemouth in August 2018 for the 2 years building up to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He is training at OLGA Poole with the elite senior men squad, whilst working as a supply teacher in the daytime and coaching part-time at OLGA some evenings.

After discussing Shaun’s background, we tackle questions requested by our audience:

  • ‘How do you nail a Barani?’
  • ‘What’s the best way to get over mental blocks?’
  • ‘How do you qualify for the Olympics?’
  • ‘What’s your tips for mastering harder skills when still young and not physically developed?’,
  • ‘How do you deal with competing at big events?’
